An impressive speaker with valuable messages to share, Mary’s ongoing work presenting and conducting seminars on business practices and client relations for interior designers takes her across the country on a regular basis. Designers who have attended a Mary Knackstedt seminar call her speaking “inspirational,” and often return again and again to her educational events. Given Mary’s generous spirit and dedication to mentoring, many of these attendees have become lifelong friends, as well as colleagues and business associates.

A great believer in the value of education and mentoring, Mary has studied at 13 different universities, including Cooper Union, the Philadelphia College of Art and Penn State in the areas of interior design, textile design, social sciences, business management and economics. As an adjunct professor, she taught at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design for nearly two decades, and has served as a faculty lecturer at the New York School of Interior Design, Drexel University and the New School for Social Research. She teaches continuing education courses throughout the country and is regularly invited to speak on design business techniques at High Point University and the High Point Market.

Mary is an ASID Fellow, past president of the Pennsylvania Chapter of ASID, past board member, and past chair of the ASID Publications Committee, and medalist in the Pennsylvania East Chapter. She is the originator of the Executive Women’s Forum in Harrisburg, PA and was honored with the Athena Award by the Harrisburg Chamber of Commerce. She is a past member of the Illuminated Engineering Society and the Human Factors Association, as well as the President’s Association of American Management Association. She is a member of WithIt (Women in the Home Industries Today), and was awarded the national organization’s Legacy Award for contributions to the industry in 2014, and served as a keynote speaker at the 2013 WithIt Leadership Conference.
